"Take the Test and Take Control" is a theme that should also be taken into the hundreds of correctional facilities across this country. In these facilities there are thousands of people who have a history of intravenous drug use or alternative lifestyles that may have a desire to take the test but feel pressure from jail staff and other inmates not to discover if they are infected with HIV. The pressure comes in seeing how custody staff and other inmates treat and discriminate against people that they believe have HIV or are even taking the test to determine if they may have HIV. Take the Test and Take Control needs to go to correctional institutions, along with greater safeguards in protecting personal medical information, so people can utilize the medical screening opportunities available to them so they can make the correct informed decisions once they are released.
