Giving Thanks and Gearing Up for World AIDS Day

Today is Thanksgiving and World AIDS Day (December 1) is right around the corner. We at AIDS.gov wanted to take a moment to thank you, the HIV community, for the work that you do. Your commitment is an integral part of what will help bring us closer to an AIDS-free generation. To this end, we’ve developed some tools and resources for World AIDS Day and encourage you to share them widely.

#FacingAIDS

Now in its sixth year, we are once again asking people to upload a photo and a message about how and why they are Facing AIDS. But this year we have a little bit of a twist. In addition to uploading a photo to www.facing.AIDS.gov, we are encouraging people to use #FacingAIDS in their tweets, Facebook posts, Instagram photos, Vine videos, YouTube, and more. We want this to be a national conversation about stigma and promoting HIV testing. So….how are you #FacingAIDS?

Thunderclap for HIV Testing and Services

We’re also trying something new this year. Thunderclap is a tool that helps amplify a message. For our World AIDS Day Thunderclap campaign, we’ve created a message that promotes HIV testing and the HIV Testing Sites & Care Services Locator. If we reach 100 supporters by December 1, Thunderclap will send out that message simultaneously to our supporters’ social networks–creating a wave of attention to need for HIV testing and care. Please support that campaign and share our message!

Lights! Cameras! Face AIDS!

We’ve produced several videos this year that you can also promote and share for World AIDS Day, namely:

Wait, there’s more!

We have lots of other resources and tools on our World AIDS Day page, including badges, links, posters, and more! And don’t forget to use and share the HIV Testing Sites & Care Services Locator.

In this week of national observances, and as we move ahead together, we thank each of you for all that you are doing this World AIDS Day and beyond.  Let us know how you are observing World AIDS Day 2013.
